Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, the iPhone Air, is now on sale alongside the iPhone 17 series. At just 5.6 mm thick, it holds the record as the slimmest iPhone ever made. But its ultra-slim profile has raised a familiar concern—could it bend under pressure, like the notorious iPhone 6 “Bendgate”?
A viral TikTok video by @marcuscupello shared on X (Twitter) by @TheAppleDesign appears to put those worries to rest. In the clip, a user slams and bends the iPhone Air against a table edge with full force, yet the phone remains unscathed.

To add more weight to the claim, Chinese YouTuber Mediastorm ran a controlled machine bend test. Both the iPhone Air and the iPhone 6 were tested under pressure applied at the centre. The results were telling: while the iPhone 6 bent at 60.2 kgf, the iPhone Air withstood 60.1 kgf without any damage.
Apple seems to have anticipated these durability concerns. The iPhone Air is built with a titanium frame, the same premium material used in the iPhone 16 Pro lineup, and is reinforced with Apple’s new Ceramic Shield 2 on both front and back. According to Apple’s own durability demos, the device can withstand up to 58 kgf of machine-applied force. On top of that, it carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
So far, early tests suggest the iPhone Air is tougher than it looks. Still, given its slim profile, more durability experiments are likely to surface in the days ahead.
