Mappls, the digital mapping and navigation service from MapMyIndia, has introduced support for multimodal public transportation routes in a move that takes it beyond private car guidance. With this latest update, users are now able to get information on metro, rail and bus routes all within the app, providing an unparalleled way to plan journeys across both underground and overground. According to the company, this step further consolidates Mappls as a complete mobility platform aggregating public and private transport experiences in one place.

Metro, Bus and Rail Routes Now Available in the App

The new feature allows the users of Mappls to see public transport routes, stations, stops and interchange points when preparing trips. It is intended to aid daily commuters in selecting an optimal, sustainable route in crowded metropolises.

The service is now live in select cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Kolkatta and more. MapMyIndia says this coverage will go on to increase as it works with transport authorities and ecosystem partners.

Focus on Inclusive and Sustainable Mobility

According to Rakesh Verma, co-founder, chairman and managing director of MapmyIndia Mappls, these changes have been made based on user feedback. The aim, he says, is to make the Mappls app more inclusive and provide access for everyday commuters while driving increased use of public transport.

Mappls seeks to encourage more mass transit usage by featuring metro, bus and rail directions in combination with other navigation products. The firm says that could help slash traffic congestion, emissions and filth in the air in Indian cities.

Platform Availability and Future Plans

At present, multimodal public transport routes are live on the iOS and web versions of the Mappls app. An Android rollout is planned in the near future. MapMyIndia also noted that Mappls has crossed 40 million users, and the expanded public transport support is expected to improve daily navigation for a large section of urban commuters.

The new feature builds on Mappls’ existing offerings, such as turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic updates, safety alerts, and intelligent routing. In recent months, the company has also spoken about potential partnerships, including interest in working with Perplexity AI, while continuing to highlight its long-standing experience in building detailed maps across India since 1995.
