Redmond-headquartered tech giant Microsoft has named a new Windows and Surface chief. The appointment of Pavan Davuluri comes after Panos Panay's departure and as Mikhail Parakhin (Team Lead for Windows and web experiences) explores new opportunities, according to The Verge. Davuluri will take up the leading role in the Windows and Surface divisions as the tech giant solidifies them in a single block.
The news outlet obtained an internal memo and stated that Davuluri will be reporting to Microsoft's experiences and devices head Rajesh Jha. He has worked at the company for over 23 years and served in an important role when the brand was considering custom chips for Surface with Qualcomm and AMD. Citing Jha, the news outlet reported - "the Windows team will continue to work closely with the Microsoft AI team on AI, silicon, and experiences."

"We are bringing together the Windows Experiences and Windows + Devices teams as a core part of the Experiences + Devices (E+D) division...Pavan Davuluri will lead this team and continue to report to me," Jha said. The news comes a few days after the appointment of Mustafa Suleyman as CEO of Microsoft AI, who was previously co-founder of Inflection and Google DeepMind. As a part of its major AI drive, the company hired many Inflection AI employees.

Speaking of Pavan Davuluri, he graduated from the Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT) Madras and moved to the US for his MSc from the University of Maryland in 1999. According to his LinkedIn profile, he started working with Microsoft in 2001 as a Reliability Component Manager. In a series of promotions, he was elevated to the position of General Manager of the Surface vertical in 2015.
In 2021, he was promoted to Corporate Vice President of Windows Silicon and Systems Integration and currently serves as Corporate VP of the Windows + Devices division. The change comes as Microsoft bets big on the AI era of computing with the introduction of enhancements like Copilot and more.
