A new Aadhaar app has been launched by the Government of India and it comes with features such as facial recognition authentication as well as digital verification capabilities, this will duly reduce the stress of carrying a physical copy of the original cards as well as multiple photocopies that you need to carry sometimes to get things done.
The app was introduced during the third edition of Aadhar Samvaad by the Union Minister of Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav.
This app will allow users to share crucial personal data through a secured digital channel only with their explicit and clear authorisation. "Now with just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information," Union Minister of Information Technology stated in a post shared on X (Twitter).

The new app enables verification in a manner similar to UPI payments, allowing users to authenticate their identity by scanning QR codes at hotels, shops, airports, and other designated verification points. An added layer of security comes from the facial recognition feature, which ensures that only the rightful owner can approve the transfer of information.
"No need to hand over Aadhaar photocopy at hotel receptions, shops or during travel," Vaishnav noted, pointing towards the convenience of this app in daily usage scenarios.
The app offers fully digital and secure identity verification, safeguards against data leaks or misuse, and helps prevent document forgery. It marks a major improvement over its predecessor, featuring a more intuitive interface and stronger privacy protections.
Currently, the app is under beta testing and is available to select users who participated in the Aadhar Samvaad event, UIDAI plans to roll out this app to the wider public after receiving user feedback. This technology is an amalgam of India's digital public infrastructure while maintaining potent privacy safeguards.
The facial authentication system of Aadhaar has already gained broad acceptance and has recorded over 15 crore transactions monthly spanning across various sectors, as per UIDAI officials.
