Recently, a new Aadhaar app was introduced by UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). But, until now, it wasn’t a fully fledged version. However, now the new Aadhaar app is launched by UIDAI. It is available for both iOS and Android users on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, respectively. The apis designed to help citizens securely manage their Aadhaar details, update linked information and also share the identity data safely.

A clarification also came from UIDAI saying that this new Aadhaar app is not the replacement for the mAadhaar app. However, this app is part of its “Mobile First” approach to expand the access to Aadhaar services in India.

New Aadhaar App Features

UIDAI announced this app first in November 2025, but kept its functionality limited for the time being. The newly released version of this app offers a wider set of Aadhaar-related services.

Major new features include:

- Mobile number and address updation through a dedicated services tab

- Profile management with support for adding up to five family members

- Secure offline Aadhaar verification

- QR code-based identity confirmation at authorised terminals

Selective Data sharing

This app allows users to selectively share and verify their identity without sharing their Aadhaar number. Users will be able to choose what details they actually want to share, such as:

- Name

- Photo

- Age and Date of Birth

- Gender

- Address

- Mobile number

- Aadhaar status

This gives users control over their personal data and enables the offline verification.

Biometric lock and Security tools

The biometric lock is also included in the new Aadhaar app, as it prevents the use of fingerprint, face, and iris data for any authentication. Users can unlock their biometrics from within the app when required. But you should keep in mind that if a user loses their registered mobile number, you may be locked out of the Aadhaar access. Users can even check their Aadhaar authentication history directly from the app.

Talking about the multi-linguality, the new Aadhaar app supports 13 Indian languages, improving the usability for citizens across various regions, confirmed by UIDAI.
