SearchGPT Prototype Introduced: ChatGPT maker OpenAI has unveiled 'SearchGPT' with AI features that could rival Google Search and products like the Perplexity answer engine. While marked as a "temporary prototype", it can return answers via relevant sources. The company is testing the experiment with publishers and a small audience for feedback collection. The company noted the best features of this experience will be integrated into ChatGPT.

Users can join the waitlist to try out the experience. With the move, the company aims to introduce conversational capabilities to the search experience to find relevant information on the internet with real-time information on the web. SearchGPT allows you to grasp updated information on the web while allowing users to check source links next to the answer. Plus, it supports contextual follow-up questions with every query.

SearchGPT brings "more choice to search" with AI to "highlighting high-quality content in a conversational interface with multiple opportunities for users to engage," OpenAI said. Responses generated via SearchGPT have in-line attribution to allow users to explore the source of information, such as publishers and news sites.

A user can also scan through results from the sidebar with links."In addition to launching the SearchGPT prototype, we are also launching a way for publishers to manage how they appear in SearchGPT, so publishers have more choices," the company noted. Unlike ChatGPT and other generative AI models, SearchGPT can surface sites even if they opt out of AI training.
