AI company Perplexity has introduced its first workspace automation tool — the Perplexity Email Assistant. Announced on Monday, this marks the company’s entry into productivity-focused AI solutions, following the July launch of its Comet web browser.

Available exclusively with the company’s Max subscription plan priced at $200 (approx. ₹17,700) per month, the Email Assistant is designed to draft replies, organise emails, and schedule meetings.

Features of Perplexity Email Assistant

The new AI-powered agent integrates with popular email services, currently supporting Gmail and Outlook. Once connected, it can perform a wide range of tasks:

- Draft email replies in the user’s tone and style

- Summarise emails and suggest which ones should be prioritised

- Label and organise inbox messages automatically

- Create calendar meetings by analysing email threads when CC’d in conversations

- Coordinate schedules with contacts to find the best time for meetings

- Provide daily task summaries based on email activity

Much like Notion Mail, Perplexity’s tool aims to function as a personal assistant embedded within everyday email workflows.

How to Set Up the Email Assistant

According to Perplexity’s blog, setup is a simple two-step process:

1. Visit the Perplexity microsite and connect your email account (while logged into your Perplexity account).

2. Send an email to assistant@perplexity.com from the connected account to activate the service.

Once you configure it, the email assistant will appear as the connected interface within the Perplexity platform.

Privacy and Data Protection

Perplexity's service claims it complies with SOC 2 and GDPR compliance, guaranteeing user data is handled safely. Their AI assistant analyzes email content to learn about user communication style but reportedly does not use user data in its training process; however, there remain questions over data storage duration and employee access since Perplexity has not provided full transparency on these points.
