My relationship with AAA titles isn't new—I've been playing them since the PS1 days, from God of War to Assassin's Creed. Both franchises have continued releasing new titles in recent years. However, one series I haven't seen much of lately but really enjoyed is Prince of Persia. That might be changing soon. My journey with Prince of Persia started with Warrior Within, and I still remember those nerve-wracking Dahaka escape sequences. The rush was unforgettable. I used to pop the CD into my PS2 right after school and spend hours immersed in that game.

It was an experience I can never forget. Warrior Within was the second title, and yes, this article is about The Sands of Time, but my journey didn't have a chronological beginning; I didn't know much then, and I just picked up the coolest-looking game in the store. Then when I finally got into it, I WAS HOOKED! This game soon became a hot topic of discussion during those evening meets with your friends, and other titles like Max Payne, GTA and NFS joined the conversation as well.
Other Previous Titles Apart From The Trilogy
Back in 2008, Ubisoft tried to breathe new life into Prince of Persia with a reboot. It introduced a fresh art style and a different take on the Prince — not a bad game by any means, but it didn’t quite capture the magic of the original trilogy. Then came The Forgotten Sands in 2010, a return to familiar territory. Visually stunning for its time, it felt more in tune with the classic series fans had grown up with.
That’s why, when Ubisoft announced a remake of The Sands of Time in 2020,g-time fans — especially those of us who spent countless hours on PC in the 2000s — were thrilled. But as the years passed and delay after delay hit the project, it started to feel like the remake might never happen.
Will 2026 Be The Year?
Now, in May 2025, there’s finally good news: Ubisoft has confirmed the remake is still alive, and it's targeting a 2026 release. This won’t be a mere remaster. It’s being rebuilt from scratch, with modernised visuals, updated combat, improved animations — even the possibility of a new actor of Persian origin voicing the Prince.
WATCH TRAILER:
For Indian gamers of a certain generation, The Sands of Time was iconic. Before Uncharted and Assassin’s Creed, it was the cinematic action game. The time-rewind mechanic, clever puzzles, fluid parkour, and thrilling swordplay made it unforgettable.
I’m not expecting something overly flashy. Just give us that same magic with smoother controls, better graphics, and a touch of something new. And if it does well, maybe Ubisoft will bring back Warrior Within and The Two Thrones, too. We’ve waited this long — what’s another year if they get it right?
