Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 with One UI 8: Samsung fans haven’t exactly been thrilled with how the company has managed the rollout of One UI 7, which is based on Android 15. The delays have left many Galaxy smartphone and tablet users annoyed, with some even questioning whether this could affect future updates — including the highly anticipated One UI 8.

But there’s a silver lining. According to a fresh report, Samsung is gearing up to roll out One UI 8 much quicker than it did with One UI 7.

Sources speaking to SamMobile have revealed that Samsung’s next-gen foldables — the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 — will ship with Android 16-based One UI 8 right out of the box. That’s a big deal, especially considering Google is expected to launch the stable version of Android 16 in June or July this year. If that timeline holds, Samsung could drop its new foldables just days or weeks after Google officially rolls out Android 16.

We’re expecting to get a closer look at Android 16 during Google I/O 2025, which is set for May 20–21.

As for One UI 8 beta testing, Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything yet. However, if the company follows tradition, the Galaxy S25 lineup — including the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra — is likely to be among the first to gain access.

What’s New in One UI 7?

While the One UI 7 rollout has seen delays, the update itself brings quite a few design, performance, and customisation enhancements worth noting:

Galaxy AI Features

Writing Assist: AI-powered enhancements for text input across the system.

Call Transcriptions: Automatically converts recorded calls into text, supporting 20 languages.

Now Brief: AI-curated info based on your habits and usage patterns.

Audio & Object Eraser: Smart tools to remove background sounds or unwanted objects from your videos.

Design & UI Upgrades

Now Bar: A new pill-shaped widget on the lock screen for quick access to music, timers, and navigation.

New Icons: Refreshed, more recognisable stock app icons.

Widgets: Better customisation with a cleaner, more modern appearance.

Revamped Camera UI: A neater layout with easier-to-use zoom controls.

Charging Animations: A new green progress bar shows the charging status.

Smoother Animations: App transitions feel faster and more fluid.

Customisation Features

Vertical App Drawer: Users can now scroll through apps vertically.

Lock Screen Tweaks: More clock styles, fonts, and widget options.

Quick Settings Access: Swipe from the top-left for notifications and, top-right for Quick Settings.

So, while the wait for One UI 7 may have tested some users’ patience, Samsung seems to be planning a faster and more streamlined rollout for One UI 8. With the Android 16 release just around the corner and new foldables on the horizon, the company might be looking to regain some goodwill — and momentum.
