New Delhi | Jagran Tech Desk: Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a process of changing telecom operator from one company to another without changing the number. The span of MNP usually takes 7 days. In order to reduce the time frame, the telecom industry is making progress to reduce the time of MNP and the new rules will come into effect from November 11. Meanwhile, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has informed that customers will not able to change their telecom operators.
As a result, the operators trying to change their mobile networks from November 4 to November 10 will not be able to generate Unique Porting Code (UPC) that is essential to change the telecom operator. In an official announcement, TRAI stated that the customers will not be able to generate UPC code beginning from 6 PM on November 4 to 11:59 pm on November 11. However, it allowed the users to use the service till 6 pm on Monday.

As per the new rules, users will be able to change to their services to other companies in a lesser time period of 48 hours as compared to one week. The MNP services began in India in 2011. It required a SIM to be at least 90 days old to change the number.
In the meantime, TRAI is also looking forward to port the DTH operator.
Last month, the TRAI had issued a guideline all DTH operators to mandate Know Your Customer (KYC) process for all DTH users. For those who had not connected mobile to DTHservice were asked to link their number within a period of two years. It had earlier set a network fee of Rs 153 including taxes, offering 100 channels for DTH operators such as Tata Sky, Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV, Videocon, among others.
