Spotify users on Android are experiencing repeated issues with the streaming app when connected to Wi-Fi, with crashing, freezing, and unresponsiveness reported over the past two weeks. The bug, raised by multiple customers on Spotify's community forum, is seemingly happening mostly on phones from vendors such as Samsung and Google Pixel, rendering music and podcast listeners unable to stream media across home or office networks. Quite interestingly, the app works normally when users transition to mobile data, indicating that the issue is precisely with Wi-Fi connections.

As a response, Spotify formally acknowledged the issue on its public forum. "We have had reports from Android users, primarily Samsung and Google Pixel, with problems where the Spotify app will be unresponsive, freeze, or crash when connected to particular Wi-Fi networks. The problem doesn't happen using mobile data," read the company's statement. Spotify further assured that its technical support teams are working on the issue and would issue updates once there is a solution.
While the cause is as yet unclear, numerous users have speculated that devices supporting Chromecast or particular Wi-Fi settings may be causing the issue. Since Spotify tends to communicate with Chromecast on the same network, conflicts of communication may be the cause of application instability. Spotify has not, however, made any statement about these speculations.
The problem does not appear to be widespread across all Android devices, but it's widespread enough to affect a significant percentage of the platform's global subscriber base. Affected listeners are encouraged to watch the support thread in Spotify's forum for announcements and tips on solving the issue.

Since Android phones are among the most widely used for Spotify streaming, this Wi-Fi-related crash should be given high priority by the company. People who want to avoid disruption in the short term may have to resort to using mobile data or other gadgets until the solution is made permanent.
