Truecaller is discontinuing its call recording feature for iOS users effective September 30, 2025. This decision comes almost two years after the feature was reinstated on both Android and iOS. While Android users may still have access (at least for the time being), iPhone users will soon completely lose access not only to the call recording feature but also to previously recorded conversations unless they act fast.

This time, it is not about legal complications or limitations from Apple. As the company states, it is because they wish to reallocate resources to fundamental industry-wide spam call elimination functionalities, including the newly introduced Live Caller ID and automated spam call detection.

In this article, we will discuss the implications for iPhone users, what to do about saved conversations, and what to anticipate going forward.

Truecaller Call Recording on iPhone Ends September 30

As reported by TechCrunch, Truecaller will not allow iPhone users to use call recording after September 30, 2025. Users will lose access to the recorded content and the ability to save recordings to the app permanently after this date.

Why is Truecaller removing this feature?

Nakul Kabra, Truecaller's iOS Product Director, has stated the problem is a resource allocation decision, and the company has decided to focus on maintaining systems to battle spam calls rather than robust recording systems.

In short: spam detection is the company’s core mission, and call recording isn’t central to that.

What Happens to Existing Recordings?

Truecaller is giving users a few options to manage their saved recordings before the cutoff:

Option 1: Save recordings locally

  • Open Truecaller
  • Go to the Record tab
  • Swipe left on any saved call recording
  • Tap Share
  • Save to Files app, email, or any supported messaging app

Option 2: Switch to iCloud storage

  • In the app, tap the Settings icon from the Record tab
  • Tap Storage preference and select iCloud

If iCloud is greyed out:

  • Go to iPhone Settings > your profile > iCloud
  • Tap Show All > Truecaller
  • Toggle it ON to enable iCloud access

This allows your existing call recordings to be backed up before they vanish from the app.

How Call Recording Worked on iPhone Before

iPhone users didn’t have a straightforward approach like the one offered by Truecaller for Android users; instead, they had to go through the following steps:

  • Initiate a recording line using the Truecaller app
  • Merge the line with the active call

Using the native dialer, users could also tap a Floating Action Button (FAB) to start the process.

All these methods will become obsolete on September 30, following the official termination of the feature.

What About Android Users?

Currently, Truecaller has yet to announce whether the call recording feature will also be discontinued on Android devices. At the moment, the application allows recording that is done through the dialer on some Android devices not restricted by Google's policies.

If you’re using Android, there is no action to be taken for now, but do remain alert in case Truecaller decides to implement the same changes on Android in the near future.

Final Thoughts

iPhone users with Truecaller need to make sure they save recordings, now would be the best time to do so. Come September 30, these recordings will be irretrievably lost.

While this change may not sit well with some users, the company’s attempts to improve real-time spam detection may result in more robust protection against unsolicited robocalls and other scam attempts in the future.

So, save what’s important to you, and prepare for a Truecaller that’s more focused on managing noise rather than call recording.
