JE News Desk: Elon Musk on Saturday announced that Twitter will soon start paying verified content creators for the advertisements in their replies. The first block of payment will be USD 5 million, as reported by Reuters.
Taking to Twitter, Musk wrote, “In a few weeks, X/Twitter will start paying creators for ads served in their replies. First block payment totals $5M.”
“Note, the creator must be verified and only ads served to verified users count,” he further added.
Soon after the Tesla CEO acquired Twitter, the microblogging site struggled to retain advertisers, who have been wary of ad placement after the firm laid off thousands of people.
Twitter has switched to subscription-based verification while restoring the blue tick of users with over a million followers. The latest move by the social media giant to promote subscriptions came days after the newly named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter, Linda Yaccarino took office.
“It happened — first day in the books!” Yaccarino tweeted last week. Musk has named Yaccarino, an advertising veteran, as the new CEO of Twitter to improve the company’s relationships with brands after losing business following his takeover and after rolling back the microblogging site’s content rules.
Yaccarino who has recently taken charge of the microblogging platform is the former NBC Universal Chairman of Global Advertising and Partnerships and has been with the company for over a decade. She was in charge of advertising sales.
Twitter has recently launched several features for content creators to help them earn money including Ticketed Spaces, Super Follows, and a special monetization dashboard.
Earlier in March, Musk said that the messaging service earns nearly 5 or 6 cents per hour of user attention from users and could raise that to 15 per cent or more with advertisements that are more relevant and timely.
