iPad WhatsApp: After years of anticipation and limited beta access, WhatsApp has officially launched a dedicated app for iPad. The new release brings full-screen native support to Apple’s tablet, allowing users to send texts, make voice and video calls, and stay connected with the same functionality offered on Android and iPhone versions of the app.

Key Features of WhatsApp for iPad

Meta, the parent company, acknowledged that bringing WhatsApp to iPad was among the “biggest requests” from users. The iPad version allows up to 32 participants in voice and video calls, with options to share screens and toggle between front and rear cameras—enhancing the experience for both casual and professional communication.

Designed specifically for the iPad, the app features a split-screen layout where the chat list remains on the left, while selected conversations open on the right. It’s a layout that feels more natural on a tablet and takes full advantage of the display.

Enhanced Multitasking and iPadOS Support

The app supports Apple’s multitasking tools, including Stage Manager, which keeps the primary app centred while organising recently used apps on the side. It also integrates with Split View, letting users operate WhatsApp alongside another app. Slide Over mode is supported too, enabling a floating WhatsApp window to stay accessible while using other apps.

For productivity enthusiasts, the app works seamlessly with iPad peripherals like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.

Privacy and Syncing

Thanks to WhatsApp’s multi-device support, the app syncs messages and media across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. All chats are protected by end-to-end encryption, which the company notes prevents even Meta from reading them. Features like chat lock also let users secure private chats using Face ID or a PIN.

This long-awaited iPad app marks a significant step for WhatsApp users looking for a richer messaging experience on a larger screen while still maintaining the privacy and security standards the platform is known for.
