WhatsApp, a popular instant messaging platform, which has been working on a series of safety features is now reportedly working on a new feature that will not allow other users to take the screenshot of your profile picture, also known as Display Picture. The Meta-owned platform now aims to enhance privacy by restricting others from downloading and sharing photos without consent.
According to WaBetaInfo, a WhatsApp development reporting website, the latest Android beta version, which is available on the Google Play Store, will not allow users to take a screenshot of any profile picture. It will show a notification saying ‘Can’t take a screenshot due to app restrictions’. The website also showcased the screenshot in the story.
However, it is not a new concept and can be compared to Snapchat and other payment processing applications like Paytm and Google Pay, which also do not allow users to take screenshots of certain pages in some situations. But you can still be able to take a picture of somebody’s profile picture using a secondary phone.
WhatsApp has been consistent in offering security features and with this feature, the platform seems to be trying to reduce the risk of impersonation and harassment. However, this feature is currently available to select beta testers and it may roll out for the public in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the company is also working on a dedicated fact-checking chatbot which will allow users to find out if the content shared is deepfake or AI-generated misinformation or not. However, it is still not clear when it will be released for users across the country.
