FAMOUS messaging platform WhatsApp constantly grabs headlines in the technology space for introducing user-centric features into its app. In its latest attempt, WABetaInfo reported the chat platform is working on an audio chats feature, once-playable audio messages, and 60 seconds video messages.
In this article, we have dissected the three features that WhatsApp is testing, according to the news tracker platform.
Audio Chats
WABetaInfo traced the new audio chat feature in the 'WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.7.12 update' on Google Play Store. In the screengrab shared, a 'wave form' icon is visible within the group chat interface. Triggering the icon displays two options, 'Open audio chat' and 'Call group'.
The second image has a red icon to abort calls in the top right, in the space above the chat header, probably for sound visualisation during audio communication. Currently, the functionality is under development. It might release for a broader audience after beta scrutiny.
View-once Audio Messages
Another feature of audio messages that will be only playable once will debut in the future update. It will be a media expansion of already live view-once images and videos. With the 'WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.7.8 update,' the company is working on one-time playable audio notes.
The audio conversations would not support - save, forward or record functionality to help widen the privacy wall for sensitive data. The functionality will expand to the public in the coming time.
Video Messages
Mentions to the business version of WhatsApp on iOS, the company is working on video messages functionality. It was noticed in the 'WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.6.0.73 update' via TestFlight, as per the news platform. With the functionality, a user can send up to 60 seconds clips with the help of the camera icon.
The feature will be beneficial depending on the use case scenario. It will help the user express the information better via moving pictures. Plus, the news publisher adds saving or forwarding the video message will not be possible with screenshots as exceptions. The feature, like the other two, is expected to roll out to a larger group in a future update.
For a quick background, WhatsApp is also testing its official chat account for information on new updates and other tips to help the user. Additionally, the Meta-owned platform introduced an improved app on the Desktop recently.
