YouTube New Feature: The one place that everyone thinks of when they want to watch a video, be it playthroughs, reaction videos or crash courses, is YouTube. Currently we are witnessing a rise of short-video-based services on a global level. YouTube still remains at the top when it comes to streaming videos.

YouTube keeps enhancing and adding new features to the platform to stay updated with the times while simultaneously improving user experience. With that said, we could be looking at yet another upgrade in YouTube, and that could be an "automatic PiP mode", which would come when you switch to another tab.

It was in 2021 when YouTube first received the PiP support, and since then it has been possible for you to play the YouTube video in a mini window while you browse and do other stuff on other tabs or programmes. The pop-up window is freely resizable, and you can set it in any corner of your screen.

But this has been an issue for the people who use YouTube on the website. The mobile app automatically converts into a PiP window when you switch or minimise the app when a video is on play. This feature is not there on the website, and on a PC you need to manually toggle that option to enable PiP.

It looks like Google is finally addressing the issue. According to X/Twitter user Leopeva64, a new feature spotted in Chrome Canary (Google’s experimental browser) automatically launches a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) window for the current YouTube video when you switch tabs.

The post also explains how the feature might work. Once it rolls out, users will have the option to always enable PiP for videos when leaving a tab, activate it just once, or stick with the current setup where PiP doesn’t launch automatically.

This option, which is currently in development, could really be useful and ease the way you use and interact with your device. Automatically enabled PiP has its own pros and cons, but nothing is confirmed yet, and the feature is still in the making, but you can expect the feature to come on the YouTube website in the upcoming few weeks.
