Zomato, an online meal delivery service, introduced "Food Rescue" on Sunday in an effort to prevent over 4 lakh orders from being cancelled by users on the platform each month for a variety of reasons. As per CEO Deepinder Goyal, the company wants to prevent food wastage by introducing a new feature.

What Is Zomato Food Rescue Feature

Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato, stated that cancelled orders would now appear for local consumers, who may purchase them at an unbeatable price, in their original, untouched packaging, and have them delivered in a matter of minutes. The opportunity to pick up the order will not be available to the original customer or anyone nearby.

How To Get Cancelled Food Orders

"Customers who live within three kilometres of the delivery partner carrying the order will see the cancelled order appear on the app. The claim option will only be accessible for a few minutes in order to maintain freshness," Goyal stated.

Zomato will not retain any profits, he stated, with the exception of the necessary government taxes. The CEO stated on the social networking site X that "the amount paid by the new customer will be shared with the original customer (if they made payment online) and with the restaurant partner."

Zomato states that orders that include perishable goods, shakes, smoothies, ice cream, and other foods that are sensitive to temperature or distance will not qualify for Food Rescue.

"If the order is claimed, restaurant partners will still be compensated for the initial cancelled order plus a percentage of the new customer's payment. The majority of eateries have chosen to use this option, which they can readily do at any time from their control panels," Goyal said.

The company claims that 99.9% of its restaurant partners are interested in participating in this program. Additionally, he stated that delivery partners will receive full payment for the entire journey, from the first pickup to the last drop-off at the new customer's location.
