Hyderabad Fertility Scam: The Hyderabad police raided a fertility centre in Regimental Bazaar and arrested at least 10 persons, including a doctor after a couple found out that their surrogate baby’s DNA does not match with them. The surrogacy racket was busted in the twin city of Hyderabad-Secunderabad.
The accused, identified as Dr Namrata, is the manager of Universal Srushti Fertility Centre in Regimental Bazaar, police said as per news agency PTI.
The accused targeted women who wanted abortions, and persuaded them to continue pregnancies by offering them money. The babies born were given to couples who came to the clinic for surrogacy.
People were misled by the clinic into believing the babies were biologically theirs, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Zone-Hyderabad) S Rashmi Perumal said as per the report.
Couple Spends Rs 35 Lakh For Surrogacy
The couple who filed the complaint had visited the clinic in August 2024 where they were advised by Dr Namratha to go for surrogacy after conducting fertility-related tests.
The couple was informed that the surrogate had delivered a baby boy in Visakhapatnam in June 2025. In nine months, the couple was charged over Rs 35 lakh, police said. The baby was handed over to the couple with a fake false birth certificate.
The couple tried to contact the clinic for documents, however, they were threatened following which they approached the police and filed a complaint, the senior police official said.
The investigation revealed that Dr Namratha was allegedly conducting a large-scale illegal surrogacy and fertility “scam". Fertility centers were operated in Vijayawada, Secunderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Kondapur, police said.
