The skeleton remains that were found inside a long-abandoned house near the Nampally market in Hyderabad on Monday are that of Ameer Khan, police said on Tuesday. The man is suspected to have died in 2015. He was identified with the help of an old Nokia phone that was found in the premises along with some demonetised currency notes which were also found under a pillow. The house had reportedly remained locked and unattended for all these years.
Locals told officers that the house belonged to a man named Muneer Khan, who had ten children. Khan’s third son was reportedly the only one living in the house, while the rest of the family had moved elsewhere, stated Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kishan Kumar, as per an NDTV report.
The discovery was made by a local man who had entered the premises to retrieve a cricket ball. On entering the house, he claimed to have spotted a skeleton lying face down on the kitchen floor. He recorded a video of the scene, which soon went viral on Facebook.
In the video, several utensils can be seen lying scattered around the remains, indicating that the area may have been undisturbed for years.
ACP Kumar told NDTV that the phone, whose battery was dead, revealed the skeletal remains were of Ameer. 84 missed calls in 2015 were found in the phone log after the phone was repaired.

"The deceased was believed to be around 50 years old, unmarried and possibly suffering from mental health issues," ACP Kumar said. "There were no signs of a struggle or visible injuries. The bones had even started crumbling. It appears to be a case of natural death."
"He must have died 10 years ago. It appears that none of his siblings or associates tried to check on him," he added.
Ameer's younger brother, Shadab, who used to collect rent from shops in the vicinity, identified a finger ring and shorts found on the skeletal remains, the ACP said.
