Hyderabad News: A 45-year-old watchman has been arrested for allegedly raping a 51-year-old sanitation worker employed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in the early hours of Friday at Erragadda, Hyderabad. The incident took place on a foot over bridge near ESI Hospital when the woman was on her way to work.
According to police, the survivor was heading towards AG Colony for her morning cleaning duties around 4 AM when the accused, reportedly intoxicated, stopped her on the bridge. He allegedly threatened her with harm and assaulted her sexually before fleeing the scene.
After the assault, the woman immediately contacted her family and approached a police check post nearby for help. The officers stationed there informed the Borabanda Police, who quickly began an investigation.
The Times Of India report cited Borabanda police official as stating that, “The sanitation worker was intercepted by the accused on the foot over bridge. He threatened to harm her and raped her. After the assault, the accused fled from the spot.”
CCTV footage from the surrounding areas helped police trace the accused, identified as a watchman at an apartment in Model Colony, Sanathnagar. Based on the evidence, police arrested him later that day.

“We arrested the accused on Friday. He was produced before the magistrate and sent to judicial remand,” SR Nagar ACP S. V. Raghavendra Rao said.
The Borabanda Police have registered a case under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The survivor was taken for medical examination and received counselling at the Bharosa Centre, police confirmed.
Officials added that the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime.
