The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has set a record by winning all seats in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) student union elections after a gap of seven years.
The ABVP defeated the left-backed alliance in the elections of UoH, also called HCU, held on September 19. The student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) won all posts in the varsity elections - president, vice-president, general secretary, joint secretary, cultural secretary and sports secretary.
Before this, it was the academic year 2018-19 when the right-wing party, associated with the BJP, swept the polls in the university. Back then, ABVP, Other Backward Classes Federation (OBCF) and Sevalal Vidyarthi Dal (SLVD) alliance secured all six of the posts, according to a report by The Siasat Daily.
On the historic win, G Kishan Reddy, the Union Coal and Mines minister, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Union Minister of state for home, and Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao congratulated the ABVP.
Talking to X, Bandi Sanjay said, "Gen Z of UoH is with ABVP. From president to sports secretary, every key position has been secured. This clean sweep reflects the trust Gen Z at UoH has placed in nationalist ideology. From Punjab to DU to UoH, campus after campus, the saffron wave is turning momentum into mandate".
The ABVP Greater Hyderabad unit, in a statement, said, "ABVP’s relentless efforts in promoting campus peace, protecting HCU lands, and addressing student concerns through movements have earned widespread support, making this a landmark moment in HCU’s history".
