Hyderabad News: Hyderabad and several parts of Telangana are set to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placing the city and surrounding districts under an orange alert. The warning is in place for August 13 and 14, with forecasts indicating the possibility of flash floods.

The IMD bulletin issued on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) morning forecasts widespread showers, thunderstorms and occasional intense spells within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. Rainfall could range from 7 to 12 centimetres in many areas, with some locations likely to record even higher amounts.

Hyderabad Traffic: Heavy Rain Likely To Cause Waterlogging

Officials have cautioned that such conditions may cause waterlogging on roads and in low-lying areas, leading to significant traffic disruptions. Wet and slippery roads, along with the risk of falling trees and electric poles, may also impact movement. Temporary interruptions to power, water supply, and other essential services are possible during intense downpours.

The current weather activity is being driven by a new low-pressure system forming over the west-central Bay of Bengal, which is expected to strengthen monsoon conditions across the region. This system, combined with an active cyclonic circulation, is likely to trigger widespread rain and thunderstorms across Telangana.

Hyderabad Weather Today

Parts of Hyderabad have already witnessed moderate to heavy showers on Tuesday, causing traffic congestion and localised flooding. Similar conditions are expected on Wednesday, with rainfall activity increasing further towards the end of the week. The orange alert will remain in place for Thursday and Friday.

Telangana Weather: THESE District To Receive Heavy Rain

The weather warning also covers several districts, including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jagtial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam. On August 15 and 16, some districts may experience extremely heavy rainfall, with amounts exceeding 204.5 mm.

Cyberabad Traffic Police Advises WFH

In anticipation of the severe weather, the Cyberabad Traffic Police have advised companies in the IT corridor to adopt work-from-home policies or staggered office timings to avoid gridlocks. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has deployed disaster management teams and placed officials on standby to respond to emergencies.

Residents have been urged to take safety precautions, avoid travelling during peak rainfall, and stay away from waterlogged areas. Authorities have also asked the public to monitor updates from the IMD and local bodies for the latest advisories.
