Mumbai Indians Captains List: Mumbai Indians (MI) is one of the most successful teams in IPL history, and much of their success is credited to their strong leadership over the years. Since the start of the IPL in 2008, several legendary cricketers have captained the team. From the iconic Sachin Tendulkar to the most successful skipper Rohit Sharma, each captain has contributed to shaping MI's journey. Under different captains, MI has not only won five IPL trophies but also gained a strong fan base. 

Some captains had long and impactful tenures, while others stepped in for short periods due to injuries or strategy changes. The team has also seen new faces like Hardik Pandya taking charge in recent seasons. Each captain brought their unique leadership style, helping the team face ups and downs with confidence. 

Let’s take a look at all the captains of Mumbai Indians from 2008 to 2025 and their major achievements during their time as leaders.

1. Sachin Tendulkar (2008–2011)

Sachin Tendulkar led MI in 51 matches, securing 30 wins. Under his captaincy, MI reached their first IPL final in 2010. His leadership laid the foundation for the team's future successes.

2. Shaun Pollock (2008)

Pollock captained MI in 4 matches during the 2008 season, winning 3. His brief leadership helped stabilise the team during a challenging inaugural season.

3. Harbhajan Singh (2008–2012)

Harbhajan led MI in 30 matches, achieving 17 victories. He captained the team to their first Champions League Twenty20 title in 2011, showcasing his effective leadership in T20 formats.

4. Dwayne Bravo (2010)

Bravo captained MI in a single match during the 2010 season. While his leadership stint was brief, he contributed significantly as an all-rounder throughout his tenure with the team.

5. Ricky Ponting (2013)

Ponting began the 2013 season as MI's captain but stepped down after 6 matches, with the team winning 3 under his leadership. His decision to hand over the captaincy to Rohit Sharma was pivotal in MI's successful campaign that year.

6. Kieron Pollard (2014–2021)

Pollard served as stand-in captain in several matches between 2014 and 2021, leading MI in 9 matches with 5 wins. His leadership was marked by his explosive batting and crucial contributions in tight situations.

7. Rohit Sharma (2013–2023)

Rohit Sharma is MI's most successful captain, leading the team in 158 matches with 87 wins. Under his captaincy, MI clinched five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) and a Champions League Twenty20 title in 2013. His strategic acumen and calm demeanor were instrumental in MI's dominance during this period.

8. Suryakumar Yadav (2023–2024)

Suryakumar captained MI in a few matches during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, stepping in when senior players were unavailable. While specific match records are limited, his leadership showcased his growing role within the team.

9. Hardik Pandya (2024–Present)

Hardik took over as MI's captain in 2024. In the 2024 season, MI finished last, winning 4 out of 14 matches. However, the 2025 season has seen a resurgence under his leadership, with MI winning 7 out of their first 12 matches, indicating a promising turnaround.

Over the years, MI has been led by a mix of legendary cricketers and emerging talents. Each captain brought unique strengths, contributing to the team's rich legacy in the IPL.
