Unfortunately, many of these species are facing many severe threats from habitat loss, climate change, poaching and human-wildlife conflicts. This is leading these species towards endangered species. Bengal Tiger and Asiatic Lion, who represent the rich biodiversity of India are also in the endangered zone as their dwindling numbers are a wake-up call for stronger conservation efforts.

Among the most critically endangered species are the Kashmiri Red Stag (Hangul), found in the Kashmir Valley and the Ganges River Dolphin, which is regarded as an essential part of India's freshwater ecosystem. The Hangul has been seriously diminished by both habitat fragmentation and poaching and due to this only 200-250 red stags remain in India at present. Similarly, the Ganges River Dolphin is nearing extinction due to river pollution and accidental entanglement in fishing nets. The Ganges river dolphin is left around 3,200 in India.
