However, in 2025, India will not participate in the G7 summit hosted by Canada breaking the rule of 5 years. India has been invited to the G7 meeting since 2019 every year. In spite of diplomatic tensions, PM Modi's attendance at the summit in Canada this year has not been confirmed.

According to some reports, including those from the opposition party congress, Canada has not invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit, two years after its diplomatic relations with India were lowered due to the killing of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. These claims were later rejected by India as "absurd and motivated.”

According to Canadian media, the leaders of Australia, South Africa, Ukraine, and Brazil have already been invited to the G7 and are expected to attend, although Canada has not yet made an official announcement regarding its guest leaders.
