All About SCO Summit 2025: Every year, global leaders from several countries meet annually at a significant international summit to talk about topics of common interest, such as security, stability in the region, and economic cooperation. This year, the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit was held under Chinese leadership in the ancient port city of Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, 2025.

This summit brought together the leaders of powerful nations from Asia and beyond to discuss the issues of international relations. The summit was a significant chance for nations to speak with a single voice in light of growing global issues like political tensions, technological advancements and climate change.

The event, which was held in Tianjin, China, was particularly noteworthy because it featured powerful global leaders such as Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and others. Many other countries also stepped onto this platform, not only to represent their national interests but also to work toward a fair, interconnected, and stable world.

The SCO Summit is a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a group of countries in Asia and Europe that work together on security, economy, and culture to promote peace and cooperation among member nations like China, Russia, and India.

The SCO Summit 2025 was attended by a diverse group of countries, including founding members and important regional allies:

Member Nations: China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Iran.

Dialogue Partners and Guests: Representatives from Egypt, Nepal, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Maldives, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and the UN Secretary-General were also present, reflecting the SCO’s expanding global reach.

SCO Summit 2025 Agenda: What Did They Discuss?

The summit covered a broad and ambitious set of topics:

Security and Counter-Terrorism: According to PIB reports, members in this summit reaffirmed their commitment to combating radicalisation, drug trafficking and terrorism. India emphasised fair action against the financing of terrorism and praised unity following the recent Pahalgam attacks.

Economic Cooperation: Chinese President Xi announced bold financial support of billions of yuan and suggested the establishment of an SCO Development Bank. Additionally, trade between China and Central Asia exploded, reaching $40 billion.

Connectivity and Development: Leaders focused on enhancing technology collaboration, green energy corridors and infrastructure throughout Asia.

Global Governance and Multipolarity: Xi Jinping also suggested a more democratic multilateral world and emphasised the need to reform global governance. Under the SCO framework, Modi highlighted India's commitment to security, connectivity, and opportunity.

Cultural and Tech Initiatives: At the summit, displays of AI technology and cultural heritage, such as humanoid robots helping guests, served as symbols of progress and solidarity.

Focus on Three Pillars: India aims to strengthen cooperation under the SCO through three main areas – Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity.

Strong Stand Against Terrorism: Narendra Modi called for firm action against terrorism in all forms and urged members to stop terror financing and radicalisation. He also thanked nations for their solidarity after the Pahalgam terror attack. PM also stressed on no double standards in tackling cross-border terrorism.

Connectivity for Growth: He supported key projects like Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor. Modi also emphasised connectivity as a way to build trust and development

Promoting Opportunities: Encouraged cooperation in start-ups, innovation, youth empowerment and shared heritage. Proposed starting a Civilizational Dialogue Forum for cultural exchange.

Support for Reforms: Modi backed the creation of centres to combat organised crime, drug trafficking, and cyber threats and called for reform in global multilateral institutions, including the United Nations.

Acknowledgements: The Prime Minister thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for hosting the summit successfully. He also congratulated Kyrgyzstan on taking over the next SCO presidency.

Outcome: Summit concluded with the adoption of the Tianjin Declaration.
