Why Is UP So Hot?

There are plenty of reasons for high temperatures in UP, like the geopolitical location of the largest state, along with the neighbourhood of the Thar Desert and Bundelkhand's arid, rocky landscape, which are all responsible for the high temperatures in the city. Additionally, the arid winds from Rajasthan make heat waves more intense. Also, urban areas like Agra and Prayagraj see increased temperature on account of urbanisation and the absence of natural green cover.

Uttar Pradesh's climate highlights the state's recurrent and severe heatwaves, with Banda and Prayagraj always among India's hottest cities. The highest temperature ever recorded in Uttar Pradesh stands at 49.2°C, recorded in Banda in 2019, but the last few years have witnessed several cities reach or surpass 47°C, highlighting the state's vulnerability to intense summer heat.
