A shooting at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in northwest Dallas early Wednesday killed two individuals and left one wounded before the suspected gunman succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police reported arriving at the ICE detention center at 8101 North Stemmons Freeway, off Interstate 35E, around 7:30 a.m. local time. Three individuals were initially reported to have been shot. By mid-morning, officials said two of the victims had died and a third had been taken to the hospital. The gunman was also found dead on the roof of an adjacent immigration lawyer's office, said local ABC affiliate WFAA.
Police first hunted for a possible sniper or other shooters, but Dallas Police subsequently verified that a single gunman was responsible. The reason behind the attack is yet to be established.
Victims And Investigation
Officially, no names of the victims or how they are connected to the ICE facility have been released. "They who were shot might be employees, they might be civilians who came in to visit the facility, they might be detainees," Dallas Police Chief Eddie Lyons said in a press briefing. "We are still sorting that out."
The status of the surviving victim is not released. ICE did not answer inquiries from the media, and neither did Dallas Police release any additional information.
Federal Response
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reported the incident in a posting on X (formerly Twitter). "There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas @ICEgov Detention Facility. Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound," she posted.

Noem also included that the motive is still being investigated. "While we don't know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is under unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families," she tweeted.
The Dallas shooting followed a violent incident in Boston. Authorities there said they shot a knife-wielding man after they were called to the scene of a break-in on Beacon Hill. The suspect, a "naked man," and two others were taken to local hospitals.
