US President Donald Trump’s highly anticipated Middle East visit began with an unexpected and rather comical hiccup, an umbrella malfunction that quickly became an internet sensation. On Monday morning, Trump arrived to board Air Force One under a light drizzle, holding a large black umbrella as he climbed the boarding ramp.

Viral Moment Sparks Internet Reactions

The video of Trump’s “umbrella fail” circulated widely on X, where users flooded comment sections with jokes and memes. One user quipped, “But he can do everything else, including world peace, boy.” Another wrote, “At least he made it up the stairs this time,” referring to Trump’s past incidents tripping on steps. A third commenter added, “Whoever gave him the umbrella in the first place is crazy for this one.”

While seemingly harmless, the incident reminded many of Trump’s previous awkward encounters with umbrellas, turning a simple weather accessory into a recurring theme of public amusement.

Trump’s Umbrella Struggles Over Years

This isn’t the first time Trump has faced umbrella troubles. In October 2018, during another rainy departure for Air Force One, he was unable to close the umbrella properly before entering the plane. When he dropped it, a gust of wind sent it spinning across the tarmac.

More recently, in April 2025, while en route to his Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump again struggled to carry an umbrella through the narrow aeroplane door. He eventually handed it to a staff member before boarding, sparking similar reactions online.

Despite the viral distraction, Trump’s trip carries significant diplomatic weight. His Middle East visit coincides with the finalisation of a US-brokered peace deal between Israel and Hamas. His first stop is Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the country is ready to receive 48 Israeli hostages released by Hamas.

Under the terms of the peace agreement, Israel will release 250 prisoners and 1,700 detained Palestinians. Following his address to the Israeli Parliament, Trump is expected to travel to Egypt for a regional peace summit.

As he boarded Air Force One, Trump told reporters he expects the Israel-Hamas ceasefire to “hold steady.” Yet, for millions online, it wasn’t his diplomatic mission, but his umbrella that stole the spotlight.
