When he was initially asked about the bruise, Musk brushed it off with his usual cryptic humor. "I wasn’t anywhere near France," he quipped, referencing a recent incident where President Emmanuel Macron’s wife shoved him in the face. Musk said he didn't feel much at the time but it bruised later.

During his farewell, Trump also humourously commented on the recent incident involving Macron and his wife while deboarding a plane. Trump said his advice for French President, who has been shown on a video through an open plane door being pushed in the face by his wife, was to "make sure the door remains closed." Asked about the incident by reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he had spoken to Macron in the wake of the video that showed his wife, Brigitte, giving him a shove on their plane.

Macron has shrugged off the incident as a moment of playfulness. "He's fine," Trump said of Macron. "There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe, with people even coming up with theories to explain it," Macron had said.

The Tesla CEO is leaving the Trump administration after leading a tumultuous cost-cutting drive, during which he upended several federal agencies but ultimately failed to deliver the generational savings he had sought. Trump praised billionaire Elon Musk's efforts to cut federal spending during a joint press conference in the Oval Office on Friday, as the Tesla CEO departs the administration after a chaotic tenure that saw the elimination of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in contracts. During their joint appearance in the Oval Office, Trump presented Musk with a gift as part of his official send-off from federal service. “As a presentation from our country. Thank you, Elon. Take care of yourself,” Trump said as he handed Musk a ceremonial White House Golden key.
