Exciting news for Deadpool and X-Men fans. Following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time upon its release in 2024, Ryan Reynolds is exploring ideas for a crossover of Deadpool and X-Men. He is planning his return to the character but it won’t be as the lead of a solo movie.
Ryan Reynolds is working on various treatments for an ensemble movie featuring three or four X-Men characters while Deadpool is a supporting player, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Reynolds reportedly believes that minimizing Deadpool's prominent role could create opportunities for X-Men characters to be utilized in unexpected and innovative ways, potentially leading to fresh storylines and character developments.
Reynolds’ upcoming movie would be completely separate from the potential X-Men film that Hunger Games fame Michael Lesslie is writing for Marvel Studios.
Ryan has starred in 2016’s Deadpool, Deadpool 2 (2018) and Deadpool Wolverine with Hugh Jackman.
Reynolds’ interest in Deadpool into an X-Men crossover isn’t new. He has a history with the X-Men franchise, having featured characters like Sabertooth and Pyro in Deadpool & Wolverine, while Colossus appeared in all three Deadpool films. He successfully coaxed Hugh Jackman out of retirement to reprise his iconic role as Wolverine. Reynolds also wrote a role for Channing Tatum in Deadpool & Wolverine, who was previously set to star in a Gambit film that never materialized at Fox. Interestingly, Tatum will now appear in Avengers Doomsday alongside veterans from the original X-Men films, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn, reprising their roles, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

The specific X-Men characters Ryan Reynolds is considering for a potential crossover film remain under wraps. However, Cynthia Erivo, known for her role in Wicked, has publicly expressed interest in playing Storm in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Notably, Reynolds recently honoured Erivo at the National Board of Review.
Reynolds is also working on a rewrite of the script for Boy Band. A Paramount movie about ageing pop stars, reportedly starring himself and Hugh Jackman. The project is being directed by Deadpool & Wolverine fame Shawn Levy.
