Ellen DeGeneres Case: Ellen DeGeneres, the former talk show host, is reportedly being sued for negligence following a car crash in Santa Barbara County. The incident, which took place on 16th October 2023, is now the subject of a lawsuit filed by an unnamed woman who claims that Ellen ignored a stop sign and drove into her car. While the legal battle unfolds, Ellen DeGeneres has already made a major life change. After stepping back from her long-running talk show and leaving California, she relocated to the United Kingdom with her wife, actress Portia de Rossi. The couple have embraced a quieter lifestyle in the English countryside.

According to legal documents obtained by People magazine, the accident occurred at an intersection that was fully controlled by stop signs in all directions. The plaintiff explained that she had stopped at her own sign, checked carefully to ensure no other vehicles were approaching, and then moved forward. However, she alleged that “suddenly and without any warning”, Ellen failed to stop at her sign and “t-boned” her vehicle. The woman claims that the crash left her with “multiple serious personal injuries and damages”, including physical harm and long-term consequences. The lawsuit further stated, “Ellen DeGeneres entered the intersection without stopping at the stop sign.”

Meanwhile, the Finding Dory star is accused of driving in a way that was below the expected standard of care, with her “negligent conduct” leading to the accident. The lawsuit also alleges that Ellen’s actions either caused or significantly contributed to the crash. The plaintiff is suing for general negligence and is seeking an undisclosed sum in compensatory damages. She has claimed costs including loss of wages, medical and hospital expenses, and ongoing treatment needs. In addition, she is seeking compensation for “loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and anxiety” that she says she has suffered since the incident.

On the other hand, speaking to broadcaster Richard Bacon, Ellen recently said, “It’s absolutely beautiful. We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life. It’s clean. Everything here is just better the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.” She went on to describe how much she has been enjoying her new rural life since moving overseas last year. “We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks,” Ellen added.
