Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third instalment in the hit franchise directed by James Cameron, has been generating significant buzz for several reasons. From its powerful cast to its compelling new storyline about the Pandora tribe, fans are eagerly awaiting the film's premiere. Ahead of the upcoming film's release, the anticipation for parts 4 and 5 has taken the excitement to the next level. Back in 2022, Cameron originally cast doubt on his future directing Avatar but has now confirmed that he is healthy and ready to helm Avatar 4 and 5. This news comes ahead of his 71st birthday in August.

James Cameron Reveals Plans For Directing Avatar 4 And 5

Earlier, in an interview with Empire, James Cameron shared how the franchise is “all-consuming” and he might want to “pass the baton” to another director, with Avatar 4. But it seems that he no longer has the same intention. In a recent chat with Empire magazine, the Oscar-winning director said, "I mean, there’s no reason not to. I’m healthy, I’m good to go. I’m not going to rule it out. I mean, I’ve got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years. You know what I mean? I might not be able to do that… (but) if I can, I’ll just do it."

Two movies Cameron doesn’t plan on directing from the Avatar franchise are Avatar 6 and Avatar 7, although he has ideas for both. He previously told People magazine that, "“We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point. Mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”
