‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ fans can get excited as the much-loved American rom-com movie is all set to visit the masses with a fresh sequel. Nearly 30 years later, Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney starrer movie’s sequel is in the works. Currently, not much is known about the casting, but actor Dermot Mulroney recently revealed to New York Post that "there is talk of a sequel." As per multiple reports, Sony has hired Past Lives director Celine Song to come up with the story.

Dermot Mulroney, during the promotion of his Netflix web series The Hunting Wives, told New York Post, “I know nothing about it. Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote.” After the breakout of this news, fans seemed to be excited and intrigued, wondering about the new star cast of the movie.

In the iconic movie My Best Friend’s Wedding, Julia Roberts played the role of Julianne Potter, starring opposite Dermot Mulroney’s character Michael O'Neal. Jullianne is a food critic and the best friend of Michael, who is about to marry Kimberly Wallace, played by Cameron Diaz. This American rom-com dives into the themes of friendship complexities and unrequited love as Julliane gets scared at the thought of losing her best friend while he gets married to another woman.

Just days before Michael’s marriage, Jullianne realises her depth of love for her best friend, and tries to find ways to win him back. The movie has one of the most shocking endings, as the ‘other woman’ doesn’t lose the man, and still nobody gets wronged.

Her latest movie Materialists, which starred Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans, was recently released on June 13, 2025.
