Pedro Pascal is shining bright in Hollywood with projects like Materialists, The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, The Fantastic Four and Avengers: Doomsday. Pedro, also known as the Internet’s favourite Zaddy, didn’t have all this fame in the beginning. The actor went through numerous rejections, lost his mother to suicide, got bullied for being sensitive and almost decided to quit acting. Recalling the darkest days of his life, the actor gave an insight into his traumatic past.

Pedro Pascal got candid during an interview with Vanity Fair and talked about his early days. He revealed that when he was in middle school, his family moved to Orange County, California. That became a huge turning point for Pedro’s life. There, he was bullied and abused for being different and sensitive, and for having a passion for theatre. He shared that he was not sure whether he would have survived the bullying if his mom hadn’t shifted him to another school. During these tough times, the movie Gorillas In The Mist became his escape as he enjoyed watching it again and again.

The Materialists actor also explained how he was about to become a nurse, as he was sure of quitting acting. “In my 30s, I was supposed to have a career. Past 29 without a career meant that it was over, definitely,” he said. But his friends and family, especially his sister, believed in him and encouraged him to keep up his hopes. Talking about becoming a nurse, he said, “I’d be a selective nurse, like I was as a waiter. I’d fall in love with some patients and hate others. And that poor patient that I hated!”

Pedro Pascal dealt with insomnia and used to stay awake, wondering how life had been unfair to him. He read James Baldwin and cried at movies like Muriel’s Wedding and Once Were Warriors. The actor’s career had not even started yet when he lost his mother to suicide. “You think not getting a job can break me? I’m already broken,” he said. To cope with this loss, he adopted a rescue dog named Gretta. Pedro Pascal revealed that being around Robert Downey Jr. helped him a lot. He said RDJ made him feel comfortable being scared, unsure, and real.
