Hours after former US president and Republican nominee Donald Trump claimed that he had reached an agreement to mute mics at the September 10 debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, the democratic campaign has now rejected this claim.

Harris' campaign had requested that the broadcaster keep the candidates' microphones on throughout the event, rather than muting them while their opponent was speaking, as was done in the last presidential debate. “These so-called "hot mics" can either help or harm political candidates by capturing offhand comments that may not have been intended for the public, Harris' campaign said.

“Both candidates have publicly made clear their willingness to debate with unmuted mics for the duration of the debate to fully allow for substantive exchanges between the candidates – but it appears Donald Trump is letting his handlers overrule him. Sad,” the campaign said in a statement, mocking Trump’s habitual use of “Sad” in his statements over the years.

Trump Campaign Pushes For Muted Mics

Earlier, Trump on social media platform Truth Social, said, "I have reached an agreement with the Radical Left Democrats for a debate with Comrade Kamala Harris. It will be broadcast live on ABC FAKE NEWS, by far the nastiest and most unfair newscaster in the business, on Tuesday, September 10th, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.”

“Harris would not agree to the FoxNews debate on September 4th, but that date will be held open in case she changes her mind or, Flip Flops, as she has done on every single one of her long-held and cherished policy beliefs. A possible third debate, which would go to NBC FAKE NEWS, has not been agreed to by the Radical Left. GOD BLESS AMERICA!,” the post further read.

Following the statement from the former US president over the weekend, there’s speculation that the debate might be cancelled due to ongoing disagreements between the campaigns regarding the debate rules.
