Lucy Guo, the co-founder of the tech company Scale AI, has entered the club of the world's youngest self-made woman billionaire. She achieved unprecedented success at the age of 30-- surpassing American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift. Interestingly, she is a computer science college dropout. According to Forbes, Guo's net worth is estimated at $1.25 billion as of April 17, 2025. Most of her wealth comes from her early ownership of Scale AI, a company she started in 2016 with Alexandr Wang. Although she left the company in 2018, she kept a large share, which has grown a lot in value over time.

Who is Lucy Guo?
Lucy was born in 1994 in Fremont, California, to parents who had immigrated from China. From a young age, she was interested in technology. As a teenager, she learned to code on her own and made money by creating bots for the online game Neopets. She later attended Carnegie Mellon University to study computer science but dropped out in 2014 after receiving the Thiel Fellowship. This fellowship gave her USD1,00,000 to work on her own business ideas instead of finishing college.
Guo is one of just six self-made female billionaires on the planet under the age of 40. She’s also the only one who’s made the bulk of her fortune from a company she left years ago, as per Forbes report.

Lucy Guo's success story
After leaving Scale AI, Lucy continued her journey in the tech world. In 2019, she helped start a venture capital firm called Backend Capital. Then in 2022, she launched a Web3 platform called Passes, which supports creators and is similar to Patreon. Between 2022 and 2024, Passes raised $50 million from investors.
Lucy Guo's success story shows how women are making big strides in the tech industry. It also highlights how young people today are creating their own wealth through innovation, hard work, and smart business ideas — especially in fast-growing areas like artificial intelligence and digital platforms.

Besides working long hours, Guo is dedicated to her daily workouts at Barry’s Bootcamp gym. In early April, she shared an Instagram post saying, “Discipline > Sleep. 3000 classes done!” with a photo of herself at Barry’s in West Hollywood, holding a sign that said “Lucy Hits 3000!” She also loves posting pictures from music festivals like Coachella and Ultra Music Festival in Miami. Her life is a nonstop blend of work and fun. Last weekend, her company, Passes, hosted a huge party for the Coachella Music Festival, which began on April 11. Guo, now living in Los Angeles, texted that “thousands” RSVP’d to the event.
