In a major legislative milestone, Congress has passed US President Donald Trump’s sweeping domestic policy bill, marking the first significant achievement of his second term. The House of Representatives voted Thursday morning to approve the package, dubbed by Trump and his allies as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” following a marathon session in the Senate earlier this week.
The bill represents a cornerstone of Trump’s second-term agenda and includes substantial tax cuts, increased funding for the Pentagon and border security, and controversial reductions in federal safety net programs. Touted as the largest tax cut in American history, the legislation aims to provide relief for working families, boost take-home pay, and fulfil key campaign promises.

Trump Calls USA The ‘HOTTEST Country’
“This is one of the most consequential bills ever. The USA is the ‘HOTTEST’ Country in the World, by far!!!” Trump wrote on social media, celebrating the victory as a turning point for his presidency.
Republican leaders spent weeks lobbying their members to rally behind the bill, overcoming deep divisions within the party. The successful vote was seen as a testament to Trump's enduring influence over the GOP and his ability to unify factions under a common legislative goal. The win comes just six months into Trump’s second term and sets the tone for what he hopes will be a legacy-defining administration.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson praised the bill ahead of the vote, calling it a transformative step toward restoring American strength and prosperity. “With one big, beautiful bill, we are going to make this country stronger, safer, and more prosperous than ever before,” Johnson declared on the House floor.
Democrats Slam Cuts To Social Programs
The bill faced stiff opposition from Democrats. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries spoke for nearly nine hours in an attempt to delay the vote, criticising the package’s deep cuts to federal assistance programs. Despite their efforts, Republicans held firm and secured the numbers needed to pass the bill.
House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson called the legislation a “game-changer,” emphasising its long-term benefits for the economy, national security, and American households. “It slashes wasteful Washington spending, eliminates red tape, and makes major investments in border security, energy independence, and national defence,” Thompson said.
