A broad-daylight robbery at a California jewellery store ended in chaos after the owner opened fire at five masked thieves, forcing them to flee empty-handed. The dramatic incident unfolded around 5 pm local time on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Olivia’s Fine Jewellery in Madera, California, and the entire sequence was captured on CCTV.
According to the City of Madera Police Department, the group of five “experienced criminals,” all dressed in black masks and gloves, stormed into the family-run store in a coordinated, well-planned heist. Without hesitation, they began smashing glass display cases and grabbing jewellery worth an estimated USD 170,000.
The surveillance footage shows the thieves fanning out across the shop floor, swiftly striking the glass counters with hammers and scooping up valuables as alarms blared.

Store Clerk Fights Back As Chaos Erupts
In a surprising turn, a store clerk attempted to resist the robbers. The video shows the employee pushing one of the attackers backwards over a counter, causing the thief’s trousers to fall down during the struggle. The shove briefly disrupted the gang’s momentum, but the situation escalated even further seconds later.

The store owner then rushed out from the back office armed with a handgun. As he opened fire inside the store, the robbers panicked and sprinted toward the exit. CCTV from outside shows the owner chasing them onto the street, continuing to fire shots as they scattered.
Police said it remains unclear whether any of the suspects were hit. Investigators noted that despite the gunfire, the fleeing group managed to escape in a dark-coloured sedan, which sped away before officers arrived.
Police Call Incident ‘Shocking,’ Investigation Ongoing
Madera police described the heist as exceptionally bold and violent. Sgt. Blake Short, speaking to ABC 7, said the attack deeply rattled the family that owns the store.
“It’s shocking to the conscience,” Short said. “It’s terrifying for the family because this is a mom-and-pop shop. Your business is your livelihood and your employees are your own family.” Authorities are now analysing the footage, gathering evidence, and working to identify the suspects. As of now, no arrests have been made.
