US President Donald Trump has clarified his reasons for cutting ties with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, while also pushing back on reports linking him to Epstein’s criminal activities. Speaking to reporters in Turnberry, Scotland, Trump dismissed the renewed scrutiny surrounding the recently unsealed Epstein files and insisted that his connection to the scandal has been exaggerated for political purposes.

When asked by a reporter about his name appearing in the Epstein files and whether the Attorney General had informed him, Trump replied, “I haven't been overly interested in it. It’s a hoax that’s been built up way beyond proportion.” He added that the files were “run by the worst scum on earth,” specifically naming former FBI Director James Comey, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and President Joe Biden. “They ran the files for four years. If they had anything on me, they would have released it,” Trump asserted.

Trump Says Dispute Over Workers Ended Ties With Epstein

Trump elaborated on the origins of his estrangement from Epstein, revealing that the financier had crossed a professional boundary. “He did something that was inappropriate,” Trump said. “He hired help. And I said don’t ever do that again. He stole people who worked for me. He did it again, and I threw him out of the place.”

The “place” in question, according to Trump, was Mar-a-Lago, his exclusive Florida estate and private club.

Attempting to distance himself from Epstein’s inner circle, Trump said he declined an invitation to Epstein’s private island. “I never had the privilege of going to his island, and I did turn it down,” he said. “A lot of people in Palm Beach were invited. In one of my very good moments, I turned it down. I didn’t want to go.”

Pardon For Ghislaine Maxwell?

When asked whether he would consider pardoning Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, Trump acknowledged that he has the authority but said the topic had not come up formally. “Well, I’m allowed to give her a pardon, but nobody’s approached me with it. Nobody’s asked me,” he said, calling it “inappropriate to talk about right now.”

Trump’s remarks come amid continued speculation and disappointment from some of his supporters, especially after a July memo from the Department of Justice and FBI revealed that no incriminating client list was found in their review of the Epstein case.
