US President Donald Trump on Friday revealed a new phase of his ongoing White House renovation project, showcasing a refurbished Lincoln Bathroom that he described as a “restoration of historical accuracy.” The president shared before-and-after photographs of the remodel on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House,” Trump said in his post. “It was renovated in the 1940s in an Art Deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era. I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!”

The Lincoln Bathroom, attached to the historic Lincoln Bedroom, was last remodelled during the Truman administration in the 1940s, when large portions of the White House underwent structural repair. Trump said his renovation aimed to return the space “to its true presidential dignity.”

Marble, Gold, And ‘Presidential Look’

Trump’s posts showed gleaming black-and-white marble walls, gold-toned fixtures, and a chandelier-style lighting arrangement. “It now has a presidential look that truly honours Lincoln’s legacy,” Trump wrote, calling the result “beautiful and timeless.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised the update, saying it reflects the president’s commitment to restoring “elegance and grandeur” to the People’s House. “When I first learned a toilet like that existed inside the White House, I was horrified. President Trump is making the People’s House more elegant and beautiful for generations to come,” she said on X (formerly Twitter).

Ballroom Sparks Controversy

The renovation announcement comes just weeks after Trump ordered the demolition of the East Wing to make way for a new 90,000-square-foot “big, beautiful ballroom”, a USD 250 million project that marks the first major addition to the White House in more than a century.

The ballroom, reportedly capable of hosting up to 1,000 guests, is being described by Trump aides as necessary for “large state dinners and public events.” However, preservationists and historians have criticised the move, calling it an “erosion of architectural heritage.”

Traditionally, the East Wing houses the First Lady’s office and staff. Trump has defended the demolition, insisting the wing is “separate from the main White House” and that the new structure will “enhance the property.

The Lincoln Bathroom makeover is part of a wider White House transformation that includes gold-toned décor in the Oval Office, a redesigned Rose Garden with striped Mar-a-Lago-style umbrellas, and a new “Presidential Walk of Fame” along the West Colonnade featuring portraits of all US Presidents framed in gold.
