Walmart News: Retail giant Walmart is under fire after a video showing a discrepancy between a product's labeled weight and its actual weight sparked widespread outrage online. The video, posted by X user @WallStreetApes, showed a package of chicken breasts labeled as 6.39 pounds. However, when placed on a digital scale, the total weight—including packaging—barely exceeded 4 pounds.

The caption read:Another Walmart product weight scandal. American shows the pack of chicken is labeled very clearly at 6.39 pounds so he puts it on the scale. The weight is just over 4 pounds, and that’s with the packaging. Americans are being outright robbed.”

Wave Of Complaints From Shoppers

The post triggered a flood of responses, with hundreds of users sharing similar experiences. Many claimed they routinely find discrepancies in the weight of meat products purchased from Walmart. "Every single pack of chicken I’ve bought from Walmart is like this," one user commented. "It is ALWAYS short by a pound or more. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME." Another suggested,They probably inject them with water to bring the weight up, then it melts away when thawed.”

These complaints feed into a larger narrative of consumer distrust, especially as grocery bills continue to climb amid inflation. Customers argue that if label weights are inflated, they may be unknowingly overpaying at checkout.

Walmart Facing Lawsuit Over Alleged Mislabeling

This isn’t an isolated issue. Walmart is currently the subject of a class-action lawsuit alleging the company has overcharged customers by labeling incorrect weights on a variety of items, including poultry, seafood, pork, and bagged fruit. The lawsuit claims that inflated weights either at checkout or on pre-printed labels have led customers to pay more than the lowest advertised price. If proven, it could pose serious reputational and financial consequences for the retail giant.

Mixed Reactions Online

Despite the backlash, not all netizens are convinced. Some users defended Walmart’s pricing and practices. User @NicoleNVR dismissed the accusations, saying, “100% Fake news. Walmart has very strict standards and employees would be fired for this.

Others shifted focus to the broader conversation about shopping habits. One user wrote, “Why do people shop for groceries at a department store? It’s much cheaper using coupons at actual grocery chains.” In contrast, some shoppers continued to stand by Walmart for its affordability, especially for essential items like chicken. “Walmart’s chicken prices can’t be beat,” commented @GinaBritton14.

What Lies Ahead?

As economic pressures mount and consumer scrutiny intensifies, big-box retailers like Walmart face increasing accountability. Whether this incident leads to real change in labeling practices or fades into the online outrage cycle remains to be seen. In the meantime, customers are being urged to stay vigilant — and maybe keep a scale handy.
