Amid speculation that independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy might endorse former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump, reports suggest that Kennedy could announce his withdrawal from the presidential race in a national address on Friday.
The ABC network, citing "sources familiar with the decision", reported that Kennedy is expected to formally withdraw from the race on Friday. This follows an announcement on his campaign website about a statement he plans to make that day in Phoenix, which will be live-streamed on X and other social media platforms, addressing "the present historical moment and his path forward".
Speculation about Kennedy's potential withdrawal intensified after his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, mentioned on Tuesday that he was considering dropping out and possibly endorsing Trump.
Shanahan suggested that Kennedy's continued candidacy could risk diverting support from Trump and thereby assist Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee.
Trump welcomed Shanahan's comments, telling CNN that Kennedy, whom he had previously criticised as a "radical left-liberal” was “a brilliant guy”.
Kennedy Jr is also seeking an arrangement with Donald Trump where he would endorse the Republican contender in return for a position in a possible Trump administration, according to a super PAC supporting Kennedy, as reported by Reuters on Wednesday.
‘Nostradamus’ Of US Elections Predicts Kennedy’s Withdrawal Will Boost Harris’ Campaign
Allan Lichtman, known as the 'Nostradamus' of US presidential polls for his accurate predictions of key contests, has stated that independent candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr's withdrawal from the presidential race will benefit Democrat Kamala Harris’ campaign.
In his YouTube livestream, Lichtman explained that according to his election prediction system, Kennedy's exit and possible endorsement of former President Donald Trump would actually aid Harris.
Lichtman noted that Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump does not influence his "13 keys to the White House," a pioneering method that transformed election forecasting.
