Trump vs Musk Feud: The long-simmering tensions between tech billionaire Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump reignited this week after Musk publicly accused Trump of failing to fulfill his promise to release documents related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Musk mocked Trump’s recent claim that the Epstein controversy was “a big hoax,” further deepening a rift within Trump’s own MAGA base.

Musk’s Sarcastic Swipe

In a biting post on X, Musk responded to Trump’s comments by writing, “Wow I can’t believe Epstein killed himself before realizing it was all a hoax.” The remark, dripping with sarcasm, referred to widespread doubts surrounding Epstein’s 2019 jail death — officially ruled a suicide.

Musk, who once briefly led Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), has increasingly positioned himself as a critic of Trump’s leadership, particularly on issues concerning elite accountability.

Musk Accuses Trump Of A Cover-Up

Musk didn’t stop at satire. In multiple posts, he accused Trump of shielding powerful individuals implicated in the Epstein case. “Not a single Epstein client has been prosecuted. Not a single one,” Musk wrote, calling the situation a “cover-up (obviously).”

He also questioned Trump’s credibility: “How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won’t release the Epstein files?” In another jab, he pointed out Trump’s contradictory stance: “He said ‘Epstein’ half a dozen times while telling everyone to stop talking about Epstein.” Musk pledged that his newly-launched political outfit, the America Party, would release the files “as soon as possible.”

Trump's dismissal of the Epstein controversy as a "Democratic hoax" has not sat well with some in his loyal base, especially as he originally campaigned on exposing elite criminal networks. Critics accuse him of backtracking now that his own name — and those of his wealthy allies — may appear in unreleased documents.

Tensions escalated after the sudden dismissal of Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor who handled both Epstein’s and Ghislaine Maxwell’s cases. Comey is the daughter of former FBI director James Comey — a known Trump critic. Her ouster fueled suspicions of political interference.

White House Denies Special Prosecutor Request

In a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump will not appoint a special prosecutor to revisit the Epstein case. She said Trump believes the case is being used by Democrats as a political tool.

However, Leavitt added that Trump had asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to release any “credible” Epstein-related evidence, should it exist. Bondi had earlier sparked backlash after claiming the Epstein “client list” was “on her desk,” only to later walk back her remarks.

Trump’s Response

Trump hit back at critics in his own base via a Truth Social post, saying, “I don’t want their support anymore!” and calling them “weaklings” who are doing the Democrats’ bidding. He urged MAGA influencers to focus on his broader “America First” agenda and drop their obsession with Epstein. Behind the scenes, sources say the Trump team has been trying to do damage control, reaching out to key figures in the movement to shift focus back to campaign priorities ahead of the 2024 election.
