In a tragic incident, Dr Ramesh Babu Peramsetty, an Indian-origin doctor, was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa, US, on Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Peramsetty was a renowned physician who operated several hospitals across the United States.
Originally from Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh, Peramsetty was a co-founder and medical director of the Crimson Network, a group of local medical professionals. He was widely recognised for his contributions to healthcare and practised as a physician in Tuscaloosa.
"We have been informed of Dr Ramesh Peramsetty's passing. The Peramsetty family requests privacy as they grieve his loss. They have received an outpouring of love and support. We will continue to honour him in the way he would have wanted. Thank you for your understanding," the Crimson Care Network Team said in a Facebook post.
Who Was Dr Ramesh Babu Peramsetty?
According to his WebMD profile, Dr Peramsetty graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin and Sri Venkateswara Medical College in 1986, amassing 38 years of experience. He practised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as well as at four other locations, specialising in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine. Peramsetty was also affiliated with the Diploma in Child Health (DCH) Regional Medical Center.

According to Local reports, a street in Tuscaloosa has been named in honour of Dr Ramesh Peramsetty in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the medical field. Dr Peramsetty, who earned accolades for his extensive work during the COVID-19 pandemic, including offering early testing, vaccines, and monoclonal antibody treatments, was a vocal advocate against misinformation. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters, all of whom reside in the United States.
