White House Cocaine Scandal Reignites: A new investigation into several politically sensitive cases, including the 2023 discovery of cocaine in the White House, is set to reopen, according to Dan Bongino, the deputy director of the FBI. Bongino, a former right-wing podcaster and ex-Secret Service agent, made the announcement on X, reigniting public interest in what had become a dormant case.
Bongino announced that the FBI, under the new director, had evaluated “a number of cases of potential public corruption” and decided to either reopen or allocate additional resources to them. Among the cases listed were the DC pipe bombing, the leak of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, and the cocaine found at the White House.
“I receive requested briefings on these cases weekly, and we are making progress,” Bongino said, calling for public tips that could assist in solving the investigations.

Cocaine Found At White House: What Happened
The controversy stems from July 2023, when a small bag of cocaine was found in a cubby near a work area entrance in the West Wing during the 4th of July holiday. The discovery led to an evacuation and a flurry of speculation. Laboratory tests confirmed the substance was indeed cocaine.
The White House emphasised that the area was “highly trafficked” and that the Biden family was away at the time. Public tours had been ongoing that weekend. Republicans, including Donald Trump, accused President Joe Biden and his son Hunter of involvement, an allegation the White House dismissed as “incredibly irresponsible.”
Trump Revives Cocaine Allegations
In a February 2025 interview, US President Donald Trump once again raised the cocaine incident, suggesting that a forensic examination should have yielded fingerprints, but that the evidence appeared to have been intentionally wiped. He described the incident as “a terrible thing.”

Other Cases Under Review
DC Pipe Bombing Case: On January 5, 2021, two pipe bombs were found outside Republican and Democratic headquarters in Washington, D.C. Although they did not detonate, the FBI concluded they were viable. Despite reviewing over 39,000 videos and conducting more than 1,000 interviews, the suspect remains unidentified.
Supreme Court Leak: In May 2022, a draft opinion on the landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organisation case was leaked to Politico, revealing that the court would overturn Roe v Wade. The source of the leak has not been found.
