Samajwadi Party senior leader Azam Khan and his son, Mohammad Abdullah Azam, were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by a Special MP/MLA Magistrate Court in Rampur in the dual PAN card case. The court convicted both of them under the sections of forgery, fraud, and criminal conspiracy. Advocate Sandip Saxena, while providing details, stated that the court convicted both the leaders after finding them guilty in the case involving two fake PAN cards of Abdullah Azam Khan.

"This was a case involving two fake PAN cards of Abdullah Azam Khan...The court has sentenced Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son, Abdullah Azam Khan to seven years in prison," Saxena was quoted as saying by ANI. Earlier in December 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Akash Saxena filed case against the SP leader and his son at the Civil Lines Police Station in Rampur by alleging that the two had dual PAN Cards with different date of births (DoBs).

The BJP leader stated that Khan and his son obtained the cards using forged documents, adding that the PAN Cards were being used for multiple banking transactions. In a major relief, he was also acquitted by a Lucknow court in the case that accused him of misusing his government letterhead.
