A businessman belonging to a scheduled caste community was shot and seriously injured by a neighbour in the Jalesar town of Uttar Pradesh's Etah district on Sunday, just before an Ambedkar Jayanti procession. The incident led to violent protests by Bhim Army members, who vandalised over half a dozen shops and blocked the road for four hours.

The shooting occurred around noon outside the clinic of Dr Rambabu Kushwaha on Tehsil Road. The accused, Dinesh Yadav, a teacher and Kushwaha’s neighbour, allegedly arrived at the clinic and began abusing him. Anil Kumar, who runs a medicine shop inside the clinic, intervened and asked him to stop. In response, Dinesh Yadav opened fire with a pistol, hitting Anil in the stomach. The victim's relatives arrived shortly after the incident.

As news of the shooting spread, Bhim Army members who were preparing for an Ambedkar Jayanti procession reached the location. In protest, they blocked the road and vandalised several nearby shops. The tension led to the closure of markets in the area.
