The state government has intensified efforts to improve the working and living conditions of labourers. Along with extending the benefits of several welfare schemes, the traditional labour gathering spots (addas) across Ghaziabad will now be upgraded. The Municipal Corporation has identified land at three locations, Arthala, Bonjha, and Jagola (near Rajendra Nagar Metro Station), to construct Labourer Safety Centres, each spread across 2,000 sq ft.
Officials said the upcoming centres will provide essential facilities such as seating, toilets, and drinking water, addressing long-standing issues faced by workers who currently wait for work in harsh weather conditions at temporary, unorganised spots. The new centres will also make it easier for city residents to hire labourers without having to search different locations.

Ghaziabad, a district bordering Delhi, attracts a large labour force from neighbouring regions, Bihar, and Purvanchal. More than a dozen makeshift spots currently exist at locations such as Indirapuram Kala Patthar Road, Nasirpur Phatak, Bulandshahr Road Industrial Area, Carte Chowk, the Old and New Bus Stands, Vijay Nagar, and near Sanjay Nagar temple. Workers frequently relocate due to the lack of basic amenities.
The Labour Department had earlier requested land for dedicated centres, following which the Municipal Corporation finalised the three plots. “Land has been identified at three locations to build Labourer Safety Centres for workers. This land has been identified in Arthala, Bonjha, and Jagola,” Municipal Commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik said.
